"Slow Down - Think Ahead"
Okay, I know we should have talked about this before now, but I map things out in my head and sometimes think other people should know these things as well. This painting that we are doing is acrylic paint on gessoed masonite board. It can just as easily be painted on canvas and the prep is virtually the same. When you work with a piece this large is takes a great amount of paint that needs to be mixed in the different hues that you are using. Acrylic paints being a water based paint, dries relatively fast. If you don't slow the drying process down you are going to waste a lot of paint, thus a lot of money. You can buy retardants that slow the process down, but your spending more money. I just spray my palette and paint down with Windex and this will do essentially the same thing. I want you to really work on your base drawing at this stage, that will help with the application of your paint later. See you again tomorrow. Enjoy!
