"Constraints, Parameters & Boundaries"
Never worry about size constraints, color schemes or layout size, just design the logo. Many people don't know what the difference between a fine artist and a commercial artist is: "Constraints, Parameters, Boundaries". Fine artists have none of these problems, they are free to do what they feel, commercial artists have to deal with all these. The logo they design has to fit a certain spot, must be a certain color and comply to what the company vision for the logo might be. This is like putting four or five sets of handcuffs on a golfer and telling him to go out and play his best game. You have many commercial artist that make the jump to fine art but you rarely have it the other way around. Once you learn to walk outside of the boundaries, you never want to walk inside them. The piece you see here was commissioned by a local restaurant owner with three parameters: certain size (it had to fit the sign he already had on the building) certain name (the restaurant was built next to an auction barn) certain color (the building was 60 years old and a strange color and he didn't want the logo to clash). This was the initial sketch that was made at a table in the back of the restaurant on a napkin. If you look real close you can see where some of the ballpoint pen notes were written with the color changes to be made. We stayed pretty close to this piece when the final art was done and made a friend of our customer. Sometimes constraints, boundaries and parameters can be overcome. Enjoy!
