"Afternoon Sun"

I saw this photograph and knew that I had to paint it. I hope I did justice to the original artist that took the picture. Stark, bold  and size were all a big key to this painting. I decided that the scale needed to be large and that's what it is - 42" square gallery canvas. The focal point was painted off center to draw the viewer's eye through the canvas from bottom to top, right to left. I used only one tomato so that there would only be one shadow as well. The effect is stark but strong. This painting is one of the few that I have done that is not framed. The painting stops at the edge and a dark brown band finishes it off. This subject was a lot of fun to paint and I owe it all to the original photographer. I didn't sell this painting because of the fact that someone else took the original picture and it belongs to them. I think I put my spin on their art and I hope that they would approve. Enjoy!
