"Hardened Steel"
From wild to mild, it's funny what difference a day makes. Yesterdays painting was full of bright colors and vibrant atmosphere, where this painting was meant to be monotone and semi-cold. The palette was basically sienna and black with the pencil adding the detail. The photo I found in a book intrigued me in the fact that the man was older and worn but still had the strength to work and mold steel. If you look at his hands they posess great strength and have almost become part of the tools that he works with. I like these themes, they can be worked as much or as little as the artist deems necessary. Even with the tone on tone of the shirt and apron you can still get great detail and movement. I wouldn't say this is in the top five of my favorite paintings but it is in the top ten. I will be bringing this to the online gallery in a few days along with two other paintings that will be available as prints as well. I hope that as you read this blog each day that you pass it on to someone else to enjoy. My readership is building everyday and it is through you the loyal reader that our base is expanding. I appreciate the help and we will be back tomorrow with another piece of art. Enjoy!
