"Purple Rain"

No this isn't the cover art for Prince's album cover. It just happens to be one of 4 pieces that I painted as a group. Each with the same green background, but with the flower in each being a different color: purple, white, yellow and red. They were all painted with the intention that the person buying them would hang them as a group. Well that didn't happen, they were all purchased by different people. I did have the forethought to have prints made before I sold the originals and will in the future add them to my on-line gallery. The names of these 4 paintings are Study in Green #1, #2, #3, #4 - catchy wouldn't you say. I named them not for the foreground flower but for the technique that was used to paint each picture, using basically a green palette consisting of only two greens. I wanted to frame the flower in each painting and allow the viewer to build in their imagination what the background held and the depth it represented. I know it's not very he-mannish to paint flowers but sometimes you have to get away from the portraits and the automobiles and the animals and use different colors and paint different items. I believe this keeps you fresh and on your game. I painted two of this group of flowers from photos taken on my back porch. We have to take these photos as soon as the flowers bloom, things tend to die pretty fast on our back porch, a result of two grown dogs and forgotten maintenance. Please visit my on-line gallery at Fine Art America - Kirby Crow and see all the available piece for sell. Enjoy!
