"E.H. Boon"

Yesterday's portrait was soft, smooth and dainty. This is anything but. The portrait you see to your left is my Grandad, E. H. Boon. I painted him from a black and white photo that was taken by my cousin, Dana. We talked about how the style of painting should match the person, well here we go. Dark darks, bright highlights and lots of contrast is what this painting is about and that pretty much describes my grandad as well. He was a gruff, hard man that loved all his kids, grandkids and great grandkids the same. He was never a partial person, he was the same with everyone and it was always going to be his way. I spent great spans of time with this man and learned many things that I use in my life today. People like my grandad don't exist anymore. They were raised in an era when your word and work ethic defined who you were. Time has passed this kind of person by and it is truly a shame. Finding someone to lookup to in this world today is not easy, I never had that problem when he was alive. He is missed everyday, but this photograph of him sits on my counter and he is with me everyday. I hope you Enjoy!
