"Case-Man"
The theme for the post today is still brothers. This brother just happens to belong to my daughter, Taylor. I painted this portrait of Casey from a photograph that was taken by a professional photographer. And before you say anything about the way I painted the hair, that was really what it used to look like. In my family and my wife's family, every male is blessed with cowlicks, and sometimes multiple ones, Casey is no exception. This painting was a lot of fun to paint because of the looseness. It embodies the way that watercolors, to me, should be used, fast, bold and loose. The eyes and the lip detail were painted last and ties the painting together as a whole. When painting portraits I was always taught that you want to get as close to a photograph as you can. Over the years this has changed for me. My goal now is to get as close to the personality and feeling of the person as opposed to just painting a photograph. I think that this piece captures who Casey is and was at this time of his life. He now is a teenager, 100% changed, but still Taylor's brother and my son. Hope you enjoy and leave a comment. See you tomorrow!
