We are still in the "Wildlife Series" but changed to a different continent. This piece looks like it was painted with watercolor but is actually permanent pigment dyes. The background is rendered in acrylic with the whole piece coming together very nicely. The smoothness of the cat and texture of the background make the piece bright and subdued at the same time. Permanent pigment dyes are an old technique that is basically like the dyes that were made for textile work. The color options have been expanded and the process of using them is a little different from watercolor - they stain (hence the name permanent pigment dyes) so you have one shot at using them and that's it. You better have your painting layout down to the smallest detail, there is no going back. The intensity of the color is what makes the artist want to use these dyes, no other kind of paints are able to bring the brightness and intensity as these pigments. This painting is rather large - 48" wide x 24" tall, making it a nice centerpiece for any wall. This piece is already sold and hangs in a home in Ponte Vedre, Florida. I wanted to include it here because it may be one of the paintings that makes the final cut for the "Series". Visit my online galleries with one click on the upper left hand side of this blog. See ya tomorrow!
