"Failure"
What you see here is one of those paintings that start with great promise and fall flat on their face. The intentions were all good, the color palette was spot on, the depth of the painting was correct, the dramatic sky works, but as a whole the parts just don't get it done. This sometimes happens in paintings, or sculpture or whatever medium that you are working in, the the parts just don't add up to make a whole. You just don't know how many times I have sold a commission with a painting on one side and one of these on the other side. With the cost of the watercolor paper that I use you can't afford to throw these away, so you do the next best thing, turn it over and use the other side. As artists we shouldn't be afraid to fail and to recognize failure. Many times I have heard that these paintings are fine, but in my heart I know that they are failures and must be treated as one. If you let these paintings be sold or hung knowing that you aren't comfortable with them, you will regret. And regret sometimes leads to doubt, and when you doubt your skills you've lost the battle. The one constant in my career even when every one around me had doubts, I have always been comfortable in the knowledge that I have an eye for what is right and what is wrong when it comes to art. Don't be afraid to start over and don't let any art leave that doesn't feel right. See ya tomorrow.
