"Big Kahuna"
Here we go again with a piece that is really off base as far as being an original painting. This was my attempt at using some really heavy texture to make a statement. The art board was first layered with glue and water and then colored tissue paper was applied in overlapping layers to make the base of the large wave. Then I drew the surfer and board into place inside the curl and did the finish painting on both. The last step was to apply the spray from the curl and the pounding waves below the crest, which also helped to set the surfer back into the painting. All in all it was a fun project and one that I really enjoyed. In the coming days I may try something a little different for the blog. I have been toying with the possibility of a step-by-step instructional blog for a drawing that I am doing. We will bring you 4 or 5 stages of this piece from start to finish. We are still working the bugs out of the process but hope to bring to you in the near future. I want to also mention at this time that we are taking orders for portraits. Portrait painting is one of my specialties and I have a large portfolio of such. At the bottom of the blog you can see 8 or 9 that I have posted and I do animals as well. If you are looking for a portrait of a loved one but don't want the plain old photograph, this is a perfect option. Contact me @ kirby.lazerworkz@gmail.com for a quote. ENJOY!
