"Faces of Music"
I know the blog has been featuring the "Famous Faces of Music" with Jimi Hendrix, Ray Charles and Johnny Cash and I decided to add my Dad for Easter Sunday. He wasn't famous to the outside world, but in my family he played many instruments including the guitar, piano, and banjo. He tried many times over the years to teach his only son to play an instrument, with no success at all. Being completely tone deaf, I just couldn't grasp the concept of keeping the beat in my head and transferring it to the playing of an instrument. This frustrated my dad since he came from a family that everyone played instruments and his Dad, my Grandad, played for many years in the "Lightcrust Doughboys" band that was featured on the radio. I was always amazed to sit and listen to him play, so I channeled my talents into painting, something I could control. He was always one of my biggest supporters, along with my mom and sister, buying paintings from me when he didn't have to, but just to allow me to buy more supplies and keep painting to get better. He has been gone now almost 10 years and there is not a day goes by that I don't miss him. My son is following in his footsteps, not in music, but in his mechanical based mind. They both can work on and fix just about anything and that is something that skipped a generation as well. I am not mechanical at all and never will be. I salute all the parents out there on this Easter Sunday - spend the day with family and we will be back tomorrow to start something new. Enjoy!
