"Puttin' on the Ritz"
I wanted to take a break from our painting that we are working on and revisit a piece from many years ago. When I first graduated from art school and was wandering around trying to find a job in the field I had studied, art, I got the chance to design a logo for a new bar that was being built. The owners of the bar had the idea to bring the style from the 30's and 40's, with etched glass, grand piano and upscale design. They needed a logo and all they had to work from was the name that they had chosen, "The Ritz". I thought and sketched and worked for many days with no luck - I didn't have a clue. I needed something that was strong enough to balance out their beautiful layout and also bring the old into the new. Then I got the idea of a portrait of a "Show Girl", taken from the golden era when everything was elegant and larger than life. This piece was born out of that idea and is still the logo that is used today.
