"Waiting for April"
When you paint different scenes and objects you always make a story to go along with the subject matter. This fox reminded me of a very cold winter day and the thoughts of warmer time, thus the title "Waiting for April". My aunt, Hazel Ruth, owns this painting (among others, 5 I think) and has told me many times that this is her favorite of all my paintings. This painting was actually painted in combo with another painting, a mountain goat. They were painted in different styles with the fur on this fox painted to be smooth and heavy, while the mountain goat was gessoed onto the paper and then painted. I like to paint multiple paintings at one time for different reasons, one is that you don't have downtime for drying between washes and the other is that you don't get burned out working on the same thing for multiple days. I also like to vary the subject matter or the palette colors. Maybe paint one in cool colors and one in a warm palette, or two paintings with varied themes. This keeps myself as an artist sharper and more in tune with the subject matter and the final piece. Remember you can go to the upper left hand portion of this blog and click on Fine Art America and see all the paintings that are offered for sale as well as prints of many of these paintings. I hope you Enjoy!
