Tone on Tone

Another entry in the animal portrait series brings you this leopard. The painting is actually done with dyes and not watercolor. Dyes afford you the luxury of bright, deep colors that no other medium has. The negative part of using them is that they are permanent staining and cannot be removed. You better put them where you want them from the start. Sometimes bleach will remove part of the color but a stain will remain. The grass in the front of the painting was painted using bleach, with the bleach being dilluted as you go back in depth. The changes in the strength of the bleach allows the color to darken as you go back in depth. I hope you enjoy this technique and we will be bringing you some different things in the near future. Please follow the link in the upper left hand corner of this blog to Fine Art America and my online gallery. Many paintings are available for purchase as well as prints of other works.
