Lost in Reflection

I know I told you yesterday that I would be starting a new "Series" of still lifes (there's that spelling again) but what really makes a still life? Is it a piece of dead fruit on a table by a bottle of wine? Does this painting fit into that category or is it a landscape just because it is outside? I never have known the difference and I'm not sure that it really matters. My sister owns this painting that you see here and she named it "Searching for my Cabana Boy". She lives at the beach and doesn't need a pool or a cabana boy. I tend to share my work with my sister because she has never been very critical of what the finished piece looks like. She keeps an open mind and even when I know she doesn't care for something I have created she keeps her mouth shut. In my business (the business of art) an open mind and a shut mouth tend to work very well. Some of the things I have painted for her and her home are the personal side of my art. Portraits of my kids, our parents, grandparents - items that we don't usually share with other people. In the end these paintings and such tend to be the ones that are closest to our heart and therefore closest held. When you are in the fragile business of creating art it really helps to have someone that is your constant cheerleader. I am lucky in the fact that my whole family fits in this category. With this in mind I want to thank my sister and my whole family for their support. This is not a business that is going to make you a wealthy person. On the contrary just the opposite, but what it doesn't bring in monetary value it sometimes makes you feel like a millionaire when you make something that just feels good. Enjoy and we will be back tomorrow. PS - go to my gallery site and vote for my entries.
