"Re-inventing the Wheel"

Today we won't have a picture or painting to post, just words of wisdom. I am going to re-invent the wheel! What? I know this sounds stupid, but whenever an artist paints a portrait, landscape or stilllife they aren't doing anything new just better - in their eyes. Every subject has been painted, sculpted or photographed - just not the way that I would do it. I am embarking on a journey to re-invent portrait painting and have chosen to do a sequence of famous musicians. The first "Jimi Hendrix" is already finished and on my gallery site, Fine Art America. The next in line is "Ray Charles". I will be taking photographs to post daily so that my readers may follow along and paint with me if they like, or just watch the process and criticize when the wheel doesn't turn out the way they expected it to.
