Looking Out the Back Window
The painting that you see to the left is one that I painted last year from a photo that was taken close to my home. The flowers in the field are really just a backdrop to the beautiful sky that was bursting from the horizon on this summer day. The depth and colors radiating from the base of the hill to the deep blue azure of the crest make this painting one of my favorites and was painted in a matter of hours with a very loose technique. One of the problems I find with my watercolor paintings sometimes is that I tend to overwork and overthink the process, instead of letting the paint and colors flow as they should. Watercolors are meant to be spontaneous and vibrant and when overworked they come out stale and flat. When you are using 300 lb. paper that is as expensive as the ones I buy you want to catch the mood the first time and not feel the need to start over. Sometimes when I sell paintings the buyer gets 2 for the price of one, when I turn the paper over after the first painting and paint the revised painting on the opposite sides. This painting will be offered in the spring as a signed and number print and will be in a series of landscapes that are already painted. Hope You Like!
